We sat down to talk to the Founder of Terranex, Mohamed Rai, to get a deep dive on the Moroccan pulse market. He discussed the premium needs of Moroccan consumers, his knowledge of Middle Eastern destinations, and his country’s future as a thriving hub of African logistics.
Terranex is a brokerage firm operating across countries in North Africa and the Middle East, including Morocco, Libya, Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. Although the company is relatively young, we have quickly established relationships with several major importers in the region and exporters globally.
Our activity centers on sourcing and supplying a diverse range of agro-commodities: grains, pulses, rice, and seeds. Regarding pulses, we import Canadian green Eston lentils and green peas, chickpeas from India, Mexico, and the US, white beans from Egypt and Argentina, navy beans from Ethiopia and Ukraine. Broad beans are sourced from Australia and Egypt, whereas fava beans are sourced — either split or processed — directly from Egypt, or imported in bulk from Australia, the United Kingdom, and Lithuania for local splitting companies that have been active for many years, ensuring a steady local supply of split fava bean consumed in a winter dish called ‘bissara’.
